January: Burnt Out or Fired Up?

There’s something sacred about the pause between the end of December and the start of January. A moment to step off the treadmill, catch your breath, and remember what really matters, in work, yes, but more importantly, in life.

For me, that space is essential. December is always intense, a shorter month, year-end pressure, and trying to tie it all together while already feeling burnt out. By the time the holidays arrived, I needed to disconnect fully to reset. And I know I wasn’t alone.

Why Resetting Matters

Creativity doesn’t come from pressure. Ideas don’t flow from burnout. And nothing of worth is produced from a place of duress.

According to a survey by Indeed, 52% of employees feel burned out, and among business

owners, 68% say they struggle with work-life balance. Read more on that here. This isn’t just a wellness issue; it’s a productivity issue. And a creative one.

For founders especially, that downtime is essential to process, reflect, and imagine what comes next. It’s in the quiet that you see clearly, where things need pruning, what needs nurturing, and where you can evolve.

From Recovery to Reflection

This year, I used that reset to ask myself:

  • What does real success look like this year?

  • What gives me energy and what quietly drains it?

  • How can I grow Innov8 Social without losing what makes it feel like “mine”?

Here’s what came up.

Setting Intentions for 2026

Planning doesn’t belong only in Q4. January is the perfect time to start living the plan, testing your intentions, and refining as you go. Any good strategy should have room to evolve.

Some questions that helped me and might help you:

What is your strategic goal for success in 2026?

  • Better work-life balance?

  • Growing your team?

  • Recurring income streams?

  • Restructuring for better results?

  • Stronger sales, visibility or client retention?

How will you practically apply this?

  • What does that look like month to month?

  • How will you track your progress without losing momentum?

What small, consistent actions can you build into your weeks to stay on course?

And most importantly, will you be more visible this year?

Where are your clients spending time? How are your marketing touchpoints supporting your goals? Could social media directly influence your sales pipeline?

If visibility is a focus (and it should be), can your team drive it in-house or is it time to work with an agency like Innov8 Social to take the pressure off?

What I’m Working On in 2026

Podcast Evolution Our podcast Social Media for Business brought real visibility and opened some exciting doors. Season 2 will be shorter, sharper, and visually led, attention spans are shifting, and so are we. Shoutout to our new videographer/editor, Emi, for helping bring that vision to life.

More Podcast Hosting and Guesting Podcasting has connected me with so many brilliant people. This year, I’ll continue hosting, but I’m also saying yes to guesting. It’s time to show up on other people’s platforms too, for the joy of it.

Event Strategy Live events were a game-changer for us last year. Nothing replaces face-to-face interaction, and it often becomes the final touchpoint before conversion. But this year, I’ll choose my events strategically, balancing visibility with being present for my children and in my business.

Client Relationships These are everything. They’re the reason we have retention, referrals, and results. I expect everyone at Innov8 to be socially adept not just for business outcomes, but because work should be enjoyable and that includes enjoying the people you work with.

Q4 was so intense I didn’t get to see some of my favourite people, and that’s something I’ll be correcting this year.

Making Space to Think To drive the business forward, I need headspace. That means letting go of some operational tasks and carefully handing things over to my talented team, without letting go of the relationships I value most.

Team Growth Later this year, I may bring in another content creator, but for now, I’m watching, refining and holding space before I leap.

Philanthropy My drive to give back hasn’t changed. I want my work and life to have impact beyond myself. What that looks like exactly, I’m still exploring. But I know it matters.

Final Thought: Don’t Lose the Spark

If it starts to feel like a grind, something’s off. You can’t lead from burnout. You can’t create from exhaustion. And you can’t build something exciting unless you still feel excited about it.

Ask yourself:

  • What’s no longer serving your business?

  • What needs pruning to allow for growth?

  • What needs more of your time, energy or focus this year?

Your Turn: Set Your Intentions

Here’s your gentle prompt:

  • What does real success look like for you in 2026?

  • What will you do this year to get closer to it?

  • Where do you need support and who’s going to help you get there?

  • What will help you stay consistent and what could throw you off track?

We’re just getting started over here. How about you?
